Week Four : Photo sharing

I am beginning to hate snow!! This sight is what the gentleman who shares a room in our library building had to face when he opened his door a few days after the big winter storm of 2009. Flickr is my choice for photo sharing. I am comfortable with it and it is easy to use. I have a personal account and an account for the library to share all the photos of our events.

Week Three : Online Meetings

I didn't get around to attending a class this week or listening to an archived one, but I did recently attend the Kansas tax class using Wimba. It was fairly easy to set up after I got past the java issues on my computer and I enjoyed the fact that I could attend without having to drive two hours for a one hour class. There was one thing that was a little distracting in the class though and that was the chat feature. It is a great feature, don't get me wrong, but as I was listening to the presenter, chat messages kept popping up and I found myself trying to read them and not listening as closely as I should have. It was my first Wimba class so I'm sure as I use it more often I will get used to the two different methods of speaking. All in all it was a good experience and have encouraged my co-workers to take some classes as well.

Week Two : Online Online Communities

I already have Facebook and Webjunction accounts, but I think I am going to sign up for both Linkedin and Ning to try them out. They look really interesting. I am on Facebook on a daily basis and yes I am addicted to the games, but I really enjoy connecting with family and old friends, some from high school that I haven't seen since I graduated, which has been more years than I care to think about. Another thing I use Facebook alot for is getting in touch with my niece. She has an AT & T go-phone but opts for the unlimited texting instead of the talk plan, I however do not have texting on my phone so whenever I need to talk to her I just put a message on her wall and it sends a text to her and then she texts one back to me and I just read it on my wall. It is very convenient. Well I'm off to sign up and find my way around the other communities out there and open up a whole new world outside of Facebook. I hope I survive.

Blogging--take two

Well, just set up this blog yesterday, so there is alot of stuff I still have to learn yet, but I've been testing different templates, so don't be surprised if it looks different tomorrow. Just set up a new widget, gadget, whatever you want to call it which was pretty easy after a couple of tries, but hey, this is what 23 things is all about, testing the waters and learning as you go.

Week one : Blogging

Made it through the first hurdle which was pretty painless. This is my first time blogging, so here goes : My name is Tina and I work at the Doniphan County Library which is in the small town of Troy, Kansas. I am the administrative assistant there. I signed up for 23 things because even though I know how to do most of the tasks that lie ahead, there were some that I didn't know how to do and what better way to learn than in the company of my fellow librarians.
